Treatment Guidelines

Who issues guidelines for the treatment of high blood pressure?

Several national and international scientific and medical societies have issued treatment guidelines. All emphasise the need for effective treatment of high blood pressure. Recent guidelines also consider blood pressure readings between 120/80mmHg and 140/90mmHg as being "prehypertensive", above 120/80mmHg the risk of cardiovascular complications starts to increase.

Should I tell my doctor if I have not followed the prescription regimen?

Yes, you should always tell your doctor if you have not exactly followed the prescription regimen. Doctors are aware that patients do not always follow their treatment regimen; therefore it will not come as a big surprise and he or she will be glad that you are now ready to follow the medication regimen with more diligence.
